Daniele Rocchi-     Amidst rebuilt houses and reborn churches; amidst Christmas lights and trees, which restored colour and warmth to the cradle of Iraqi Christianity. Father Paolo Mekko describes the upcoming Christmas of the Christian population of the Nineveh Plain, the first Christmas after ISIS’ defeat. Last year active combat was still ongoing amidst the rubble of destroyed Christian villages, yet to be completely liberated. Christian families are slowly returning to their lands and to their homes, rekindling hope in a future of peace. Returning to the Plains is “a Christmas miracle.” “The peace of our enemies will be our peace” is their prayer.
