PATRIARCH DANIEL’S MESSAGE TO THE EPISCOPAL SYNOD

«The theme of the Episcopal Synod, "God's Word in the life and in the Mission of the Church", is one of the shared concerns of our churches». This was said by Daniel, Patriarch of the Rumanian Orthodox Church, in a message to the Catholic Bishops gathered in Rome for their Synod and published by the news agency "Basilica" of the Rumanian Patriarchate. The Rumanian Orthodox Church declared 2008 the Jubilee Year of the Holy Scripture and of Holy Mass. "This - explains Patriarch Daniel - draws attention to the organic and inseparable link that exists between the Holy Scripture and Holy Mass, between God's Word and the Eucharist, the only nourishment that can respond to the spiritual hunger and thirst that contemporary man feels". Then the Patriarch recalls that October 26th, on the occasion of the re-consecration of the Patriarchal Cathedral of Bucharest, a relic of Saint Paul the Apostle will be exposed for the veneration of the devotees. "Let's keep in mind - goes on the Patriarch - that, in today's secularised European context, the missionary courage of the Apostle Paul can inspire us, and his prayers can help us in our missionary work". S.E. Siluan, Bishop of the Rumanian Orthodox Diocese in Italy, is attending the XII General Assembly of the Episcopal Synod as a delegate of the Rumanian Orthodox Patriarchate.
