HOLY LAND: “KNOWING CHRIST”, THE FIRST CATECHISM IN JEWISH

“Knowing Christ”: this is the title of the first book of children’s catechism in Jewish that will be officially presented on the next few days of Advent. It was announced to SIR by father David Neuhaus, vicar of the Catholic communities of the Jewish expression in the State of Israel. “It will be – he says – our present for the children of our communities as well as for anyone who wants to approach the figure of Christ. The text will also interest the Arab-speaking communities because there are children in the mixed cities who attend the Jewish school. They too need this book as do the children of the foreign workers, mainly Filipinos and Latin Americans, who read Jewish better than any other language”. “It is – the vicar explains – a fine book, full of pictures of the Holy Land, where we are so lucky to live in, and illustrations of Jesus’ life, many of which have been made by the children themselves and then adapted to the text with the help of a French-born nun. The text, instead, has been drawn up by a priest of Polish descent, father Gregor Pawlowski, who has been in Israel since 1970 and has worked with children a lot”. “After this book – father Neuhaus concludes –, we intend to publish another two, ‘Knowing the Church’ and ‘The Liturgical Year’, also aimed to educate the children who are our future".
