From 2nd to 9th September, Lviv will host the Synod of the bishops of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, and patriarch Lubomyr Husar asks the congregation to “pray for the success” of this meeting, which marks “an extremely important event for the life of the Church”. The synod, card. Husar explains, “will bring together all our bishops from Ukraine and the diaspora to reflect together on the needs of our Church and take the most appropriate decisions”. The main points will be two: evangelisation and migration. “We have to find out – the patriarch points out – how to help people find Christ through our example and our fraternal words, but we also must take care of our emigrants, especially those who live in countries in which there are no structures of our Church, so that they can stay faithful to it and its tradition”. In asking the congregation to pray for the intentions of the Synod, Patriarch Husar concludes: “The Synod is not a parliament, in which issues are decided by a majority”, it is instead a place in which “Church leaders try to understand God’s will”.
