11 SEPTEMBER: ST.EGIDIO. CARD. POUPARD, ARAB SPRING “A PLACE ALSO FOR CHRISTIANS”

cardinale poupard-2(From our correspondents in Munich, Bavaria) – The so-called Arab Spring “fills us with joy. We were impressed to see that the peoples have mobilised, despite the apparent freezing. This fact gives us hope”, Card. Paul Poupard, president Emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Culture, told SIR, on the margins of the meeting “Arab Spring” which took place in the framework of the interreligious meeting “Bound to live together” organised by the Sant’Egidio Community in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. “It is called ‘Arab’ – the cardinal explained – but this does not mean that everything is alright. In fact, there are different components and we call on them to know their orientations. We as Christians cannot but pray that all components may behave as hoped for since the beginning of this spring, with a true sense of respect for all, and that Christians too, like all others, may find a place”.
