HOLY LAND AND IRELAND: IN 2012, TWO DAMAGED LANDS MEET IN PRAYER IN DUBLIN

Bishop-ShoumaliA delegation of the Holy Land will be at the 50th International Eucharistic Congress (IEC 2012) that will open in Dublin on June 10th (until 17th). A participation that matches the one in Milan, for the VIII World Meeting of Families. “The delegation - states mgr. William Shomali, assistant to the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Fouad Twal, in an interview with SIR Europe (click here) - includes 34 people and will be led by the Patriarch. There will also be four priests and some families from Palestine, Israel and Jordan. We are a small delegation but it is very big if you consider how few devotees we have in our Church of Jerusalem”. A participation that was “firmly wanted” by the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land that, because of this, “overcame lots of difficulties, first and foremost the problem of travelling. Getting a visa, as you know, is not so easy here, and despite all this we have managed to be well prepared and well organised”. Four are the rites within the delegation, the Latin, the Greek Catholic, the Maronite and the Syro-Catholic one. “We will go to Dublin - mgr. Shomali concludes - to honour the Eucharist, to be pilgrims ourselves and share the gifts we have and support the local Church, damaged by the sex abuse scandal”.
