BELARUS: PRO-LIFE ACTIVISTS FOR A COUNTRY “WITHOUT ABORTIONS”

abbraccio-neonati(Sir Europe - Bratislava) - “You’ve had a chance to be born, help others”. Pro-life activities with this title took place in the first days of June in several towns of Belarus. Their aim was to draw the attention of the public and media to the problem of family crisis and demographic development in the country, in relation to protection of life. According to the Ministry of health, 30.000 abortions were committed in Belarus in 2011. In Vitebsk, the event was organized by the diocesan office for family pastoral, in cooperation with the Foundation for protection of life and family values “Open your hearts”. 14 cars plastered with posters “Belarus without abortions” and “For life” were driving on the main roads of the city, trying to point to the need to protect life from the moment of conception until natural death. “With this activity we wanted to draw the attention of the society to the problem of abortion, to children in mothers’ wombs who need our protection”, explains one of the organizers Aleksiej Waranko, affirming that the problem of abortion is very serious in Belarus and in some way “it touches practically every family”. The pro-life manifestation in Vitebsk was concluded by adoration of the Holy Eucharist and common prayer of participants in local cathedral.
