“Un grande maestro, un pastore compassionevole ed un testimone coraggioso”. E’ Benedetto XVI nelle parole del vicario patriarcale per le comunità cattoliche di espressione ebraica, il gesuita israeliano padre David Neuhaus, che ieri a Gerusalemme ha concelebrato una messa per il 5° anniversario dell’elezione del pontefice, presieduta dal nunzio apostolico, mons. Antonio Franco. Il vicario, ripercorrendo il viaggio del papa in Terra Santa nel maggio del 2009, ha ricordato “la ricchezza del messaggio. Ci ha incoraggiato ad abbracciare la nostra condizione di piccolo gregge e ad annunciare la Buona Novella. Ci ha esortato a cercare il dialogo con musulmani ed ebrei per sperare in un futuro migliore”. “In ogni momento – ha proseguito padre Neuhaus - ci ha testimoniato il desiderio di giustizia, di pace, di perdono, di riconciliazione, sottolineando il contributo unico che la Chiesa può e deve dare nella nostra situazione. Arrivando qui un anno fa Benedetto XVI si definì amico di Israele e dei Palestinesi e lo ringraziamo per questa amicizia”. “Presto – ha concluso il gesuita – il Papa tornerà nella nostra diocesi, questa volta a Cipro. Dio benedica questa visita e il dialogo con gli Ortodossi. Ad ottobre si terrà il Sinodo per il Medio Oriente. Il Papa ci ha invitato a pregare con lui, a discutere, a consolare e a trovare modi per annunciare il Vangelo a questa amata regione”.

“A great master, a compassionate pastor and a brave witness”. This is Benedict XVI in the words of the patriarchal vicar for the Catholic communities of Jewish expression, the Israeli Jesuit father David Neuhaus, who in Jerusalem yesterday co-celebrated Mass for the 5th anniversary of the appointment of the Pontiff, officiated by the apostolic nuncio, mgr. Antonio Franco. In describing the Pope’s journey in the Holy Land in May 2009, the vicar recalled “the richness of his message. He encouraged us to embrace our status as a small flock and announce the Gospel. He exhorted us to look for dialogue with Muslims and Jews to hope in a better future”. “All the time –father Neuhaus went on – he testified to us a desire for justice, peace, forgiveness, reconciliation, highlighting the unique contribution that the Church can and must give in our situation. As he came here one year ago, Benedict XVI called himself a friend of Israel and the Palestinians, and we thank him for this friendship”. “Soon – the Jesuit concluded – the Pope will come back to our diocese, this time in Cyprus. May God bless this visit and dialogue with the Orthodox Church. In October, there will be the Synod for the Middle East. The Pope asked us to pray for him, to discuss, console and find ways to announce the Gospel to this beloved region”.
